American Idol’s John Foster Brings Nation to Tears with Emotional Tribute to Late Friends

John Foster, a Louisiana native and LSU pre-med student with dreams of becoming an oncologist, has captured hearts across the nation on American Idol.

Making it into the Top 14, Foster used his platform not just to showcase his talent—but to pay tribute to two lives lost far too soon.

During the Top 20 round, Foster delivered a moving original performance titled “Tell That Angel I Love Her,” a song he wrote shortly after the tragic loss of his close friend Maggie Dunn and her companion Caroline Gill.

Both teens were killed in a devastating car crash on New Year’s Eve in 2022.

Foster shared his inspiration behind the song in a heartfelt statement to L&M Star Productions:

“I wrote this for the two sweet angels who were tragically taken from us. Maggie was one of my best friends, and Caroline was a good friend I wish I’d had more time with. Until we meet again. So much love to everyone.”

The powerful performance struck an emotional chord with viewers, drawing praise for its vulnerability and heartfelt sincerity.

In response, Maggie Dunn’s mother publicly expressed her appreciation, breaking her silence to thank John for keeping her daughter’s memory alive in such a beautiful and meaningful way.

Foster’s appearance on American Idol has not only showcased his musical talent but also highlighted his compassion, reminding audiences of the healing power of music—and the importance of honoring those we’ve lost.
