Donald Trump Hints at 2028 Republican Ticket
President Donald Trump may have just given the biggest clue yet about who could lead the Republican Party into the 2028 presidential election.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said his Vice President, JD Vance, is “most likely” the frontrunner to carry the MAGA movement forward — though he stopped short of an official endorsement.
In a surprising twist, Trump floated the idea of pairing Vance with current Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Once a fierce rival during the 2016 primaries, Rubio has since become a key figure in the Trump administration and a strong voice on foreign policy.
Trump called Rubio “incredible” and suggested he could join forces with Vance to unite different factions of the GOP.
While Trump insists it’s still “too early” to decide on 2028 — and maintains he will “probably not” run again due to constitutional limits — his comments have already fueled speculation.
Betting markets like Polymarket currently place Vance as the early favorite, with California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez trailing behind.
Rubio has publicly praised Vance, calling him “one of my closest friends in politics” and a “great nominee” if he chooses to run.
A potential Vance–Rubio ticket could prove to be a formidable force in the post-Trump era.
