Donald Trump’s Secret Nickname on the Golf Course Revealed – And It’s Not Exactly a Compliment
Former President Donald Trump is known for handing out colorful nicknames to his political opponents — from “Crooked Hillary” to “Sleepy Joe.”
But behind the scenes, Trump has reportedly earned a few nicknames of his own, including one tied to an unexpected source: soccer legend Pelé.
According to Commander in Cheat, a book by longtime sportswriter Rick Reilly, Trump’s golfing habits have earned him a less-than-flattering reputation.
Reilly and other club members claim Trump frequently takes “mulligans” (do-overs), moves his ball by foot, and even declares himself the winner of tournaments he didn’t play in.
One such story: Trump allegedly once bought a golf course, played the first round solo, and crowned himself club champion.
Another tale includes him claiming victory in a tournament he supposedly played during a trip to North Korea — a claim with no supporting evidence.
But perhaps the most talked-about anecdote is his nickname at the elite Winged Foot Golf Club in New York: “Pelé.”
The reason? Club members say he was often seen kicking his golf ball into a better position — much like a soccer player on the field.
Bryan Marsal, a member of the club, reportedly recalled Trump once saying:
“I cheat, and I expect you to cheat too — because we’re going to win.”
While Trump’s campaign has firmly denied these stories, calling them fabrications, Reilly and several other golfers insist the tales are accurate.
Whether viewed as harmless competitiveness or something more serious, the stories reflect the former president’s larger-than-life personality.
In a sport where honesty and etiquette are held in the highest regard, being known as “Pelé” for rule-bending is bound to spark conversation — and controversy.
