Elon Musk Donates Millions to GOP Super PACs Ahead of 2025 Midterms, Sparks Talk of Third Party

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has once again made waves in American politics. According to newly filed campaign finance disclosures, Musk contributed $5 million each to two major Republican super PACs supporting GOP candidates in the House and Senate—making him the largest individual donor to both groups in the first half of 2025.

On the same day, he also donated $5 million to MAGA Inc., the super PAC backing former President Donald Trump.

In addition to his external donations, Musk funneled an estimated $45.3 million into his own political organization, America PAC, which includes roughly $17.9 million in direct funding and $27.4 million in in-kind contributions.

The PAC spent a total of $47.3 million from January through June, including $15.5 million during the critical first week of April, when it was active in the Florida House special election and the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.

America PAC’s reported expenditures also include $6 million on field operations and canvassing, and several million more on digital ads, mailers, and phone outreach.

Musk reportedly funded million-dollar rewards to incentivize voter petition signings—further highlighting his deepening role in conservative political infrastructure.

In the 2024 election cycle, Musk donated over $250 million, largely in support of Trump-aligned campaigns.

Despite his substantial contributions, the full scope of Musk’s 2025 political involvement may not be known for months.

Many affiliated organizations are not required to disclose donors, and additional filings are still expected before the FEC’s reporting deadline.

Adding fuel to the fire, Musk recently announced plans to launch a new political party, dubbed the “America Party.”

However, a CNN poll conducted July 10–13 found that 74% of Americans would not support a Musk-led third party, despite 63% expressing interest in a new political alternative to the Democrats and Republicans.

The same poll showed Musk’s favorability rating at just 23%, with 60% of respondents viewing him unfavorably.

CNN analyst Harry Enten reacted bluntly to the results, posting on X: “Jeez Louise, Musk’s 3rd party looks close to dead on arrival.”

Former President Trump also criticized the effort, writing on Truth Social, “He even wants to start a third political party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.

The system seems not designed for them.”

As of now, the America Party’s platform remains vague, and it’s unclear whether the group will meet ballot access requirements in key states ahead of the 2026 election season.
