Eric Dane Hospitalized After Fall Linked to His ALS Condition

Beloved Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, known to millions as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, was noticeably absent from this year’s Emmy Awards — and for a heartbreaking reason.

The actor, who publicly revealed his ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) diagnosis earlier this year, was hospitalized following a fall related to his condition, which left him needing stitches.

Dane shared the update in an interview with The Washington Post, explaining, “ALS is a nasty disease. So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.”

He admitted he was disappointed to miss the reunion with his Grey’s Anatomy co-stars, who celebrated the show’s 20th anniversary, saying, “It would have been great to see Jesse [Williams] and some of my peers, and to present in front of my colleagues. I thought it would have been a special moment.”

While Dane couldn’t attend, his longtime friend and former co-star Jesse Williams honored him on the red carpet, telling Entertainment Tonight, “He’s solid.

The man’s just solid. We have to be careful, you know, as men, to take care of ourselves — and he’s got a perfect balance going.”

Since announcing his diagnosis in April 2025, Dane has used his platform to raise awareness and push for progress in ALS research.

He has been actively supporting the renewal of the ACT for ALS, legislation aimed at advancing treatment and research for neurodegenerative diseases.

In late September, he traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with U.S. Representative Frank Pallone and members of the nonprofit I AM ALS to advocate for faster clinical trial access and stronger federal support.

Speaking candidly, Dane reflected on the long road to diagnosis, telling U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell in a TikTok video, “ALS is the last thing they want to diagnose anybody with.

It takes so long to confirm, and by then, many patients are excluded from important trials.”

Despite the challenges, Dane remains hopeful. In a heartfelt statement to People magazine, he said, “I’m grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.

I feel fortunate to still be working and I’m looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria soon.”

However, the disease continues to progress. In an emotional interview with Diane Sawyer in June, Dane revealed, “My left side is functioning, but my right side has completely stopped working. I feel like maybe in a few more months, I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

Even in the face of adversity, Eric Dane’s courage and openness have inspired fans around the world.

His determination to fight ALS — and to use his voice for those who cannot — shows that his true strength has always come from within.
