Alonzo “Zo” Carter, currently an assistant football coach for the San Jose State Spartans, has a remarkable past as MC Hammer’s backup dancer. In 1989, Zo and his friends auditioned on a whim for MC Hammer’s “Let’s Get It Started” music video and were hired on the spot. He toured with MC Hammer for three years, performing at prestigious events. Despite the success, Zo returned to coaching football after realizing his passion for the sport. In a 2017 practice, head coach Brent Brennan surprised everyone by playing “U Can’t Touch This” and encouraging Zo to showcase his iconic Hammer Dance.
