Grieving, Gary Sinise laments the unexpected loss of his 33-year-old son
Actor Gary Sinise and his family are mourning the tragic loss of his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, who passed away at the age of 33.
Gary, 68, shared the heartbreaking news on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and his Instagram page, revealing that Mac succumbed to cancer on January 5.
Mac had been battling a rare cancer called Chordoma since August 2018. This came shortly after Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. While Moira successfully went into remission, Mac’s condition worsened, gradually taking away his strength and mobility.
Despite his health challenges, Mac remained dedicated to his passion for music.
He joined the Gary Sinise Foundation as an assistant manager of education and outreach and played drums in the Lt. Dan Band with his father. A University of Southern California graduate in songwriting and composition, Mac continued his creative pursuits despite undergoing five spine surgeries and facing paralysis from the chest down.
He completed an album titled “Resurrection & Revival” shortly before his death.
Gary expressed the profound grief of losing a child, stating, “Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and managing as best we can. Losing a child is incredibly difficult, and my heart goes out to all who have faced a similar loss.”
He continued, “Our family’s cancer fight lasted for 5 ½ years, growing more challenging with time. While our hearts ache, we are comforted knowing Mac is no longer struggling and inspired by his resilience. He fought tirelessly against a cancer with no cure and never gave up.”
Mac’s legacy lives on through his family, including his parents, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Gary is committed to honoring Mac’s memory by releasing his album, “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” on vinyl.
Gary’s words reflect the deep love and admiration he holds for his son. Mac’s memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him. Our thoughts are with the Sinise family during this difficult time.
