“Jessica Aber, Former U.S. Attorney, Dies at 43 Amid Ongoing National Security Investigations”
Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found unresponsive at her Alexandria home over the weekend.
Authorities are investigating the cause of death, with early reports suggesting it may be linked to a longstanding medical condition.
Officials have so far found no signs of foul play.
Aber, 43, was a Biden appointee known for leading several high-stakes national security prosecutions.
Her recent work included major investigations into CIA document leaks, Russian fraud schemes, and war crimes committed against U.S. citizens in Ukraine.
Among her most high-profile cases was the prosecution of former CIA analyst Asif Rahman, who pleaded guilty to leaking classified documents that disrupted a planned Israeli military operation.
She also pursued charges against Virginia-based Eleview International Inc., accusing its executives of illegally exporting U.S. technology to Russia in violation of federal sanctions.
Aber’s office had recently indicted two Russian nationals in a wide-ranging online money laundering case linked to cybercrime syndicates.
She also led efforts to prosecute four Russian soldiers for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, marking a first-of-its-kind case for the U.S. Justice Department.
Before becoming U.S. Attorney, Aber served over a decade as a federal prosecutor and held senior roles within the Department of Justice.
A graduate of the University of Richmond and William & Mary Law School, she was widely respected for her commitment to justice and national security.
The medical examiner is expected to release an official cause of death soon.
