Kamala Harris Seeks Guidance from Hillary Clinton After Election Defeat to Trump

Months after her loss to President Donald Trump, former Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly weighing her next steps while consulting with key figures—including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to a report by New York Magazine.

Since her election defeat, Harris has remained active in discussions with family and political allies, fueling speculation about her future in public service.

Some analysts suggest she may enter California’s 2026 gubernatorial race, as Governor Gavin Newsom is term-limited.

Others believe she is keeping her options open for a potential 2028 presidential bid. According to reports, Harris has privately advised her team not to rule out another run for the White House.

A Political Career Far from Over

While Harris has yet to formally announce her plans, she has strongly hinted that her time in politics is not coming to an end.

In one of her final acts as vice president, she signed her desk drawer—an age-old tradition in Washington—before addressing her staff.

During her remarks, she declared, “Our work is not done,” echoing the sentiments of her concession speech, in which she vowed to continue the fight for her vision of America.

Her political journey has been anything but conventional. After an unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, Harris secured a place on Joe Biden’s ticket and became the first female vice president in U.S. history.

Initially, Biden indicated he might serve only one term, but in April 2023, he announced his re-election bid.

His campaign, however, was marred by concerns over his age and a faltering debate performance.

Following a near-fatal assassination attempt on Donald Trump in July 2024, Biden made the historic decision to withdraw from the race and endorsed Harris as his successor.

Though her nomination energized parts of the Democratic base, it also sparked debate, with some critics arguing that her selection was more of a “coronation” than a competitive decision—contradicting the party’s messaging on democracy.

Even with high-profile endorsements from Hollywood and public figures like Taylor Swift, Harris was unable to bridge the gap in key swing states.

Trump’s Energy Policy Shift

As Harris contemplates her political future, President Trump has wasted no time implementing sweeping policy changes.

A top priority of his administration is reversing Biden-era environmental regulations and boosting domestic energy production.

Through a series of executive orders, Trump has declared an “energy emergency,” paving the way for increased fossil fuel exploration, expanded drilling on public lands, and streamlined approval for energy projects.

His orders also promote the mining of critical minerals essential for national security.

Industry experts have likened Trump’s energy policies to some of the most significant shifts in U.S. energy strategy since the 1973 OPEC oil embargo.

However, these actions are expected to face legal challenges from environmental groups and Democratic governors.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes remain on Harris and her next move—whether she sets her sights on California’s governorship, prepares for another White House run, or takes on a new role in the Democratic Party.
