Melania Trump Mocked Online After Christmas Reading at Children’s Hospital – Here’s What Really Happened
Melania Trump continued one of Washington, D.C.’s most cherished holiday traditions this year: the First Lady’s annual visit to Children’s National Hospital.
The tradition dates back to Bess Truman in the 1940s and remains a moment families look forward to during the holiday season.

On December 5, Melania arrived at the hospital, greeted by two young patients whose “positive energy brought festive spirit to the event,” the hospital wrote.
Staff praised her for taking time to meet families, offer encouragement, and bring Christmas gifts to the children.
A Sweet Visit — That Turned Into a Social Media Debate
During her visit, Melania sat in a large red chair beside a Christmas tree and read How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney? to a group of young patients.
But while the children enjoyed the moment, critics online reacted differently.
Because English is not Melania’s first language, many users commented on her pronunciation and delivery, with some accusing her of sounding “unemotional” or “disengaged.”
Others pointed out what they saw as irony, given the administration’s strong stance on immigration.
Supporters, however, defended her, noting she speaks several languages, that reading aloud is challenging even for native speakers, and that the focus should remain on the children’s experience, not online mockery.
Melania’s Message to the Kids
After finishing the story, Melania wished the children “strength and love” for the holidays and reminded them that Santa would “bring lots of toys.” She also delivered Christmas gifts on behalf of herself and President Donald Trump.
Hospital leadership publicly thanked her, calling the visit “meaningful” for families spending the holidays away from home.

A Tradition That Continues to Bring Joy
Political opinions aside, the First Lady’s annual visit remains a bright moment for many young patients facing difficult medical challenges.
While social media argued over her reading, the children at the hospital received a rare break from treatment — and a dose of holiday magic.
What’s your take? Was the criticism fair or unnecessary?
