NBA legend Michael Jordan sets a new Make-A-Wish record with an incredible $10 million donation!

NBA legend Michael Jordan made headlines by giving the biggest individual donation in Make-A-Wish’s 43-year history for his 60th birthday. Instead of receiving gifts, Jordan wanted to give back, donating $10 million to the foundation that grants wishes to children with critical illnesses.

Jordan’s relationship with Make-A-Wish began in 1989. He has since become one of the most requested celebrities for meet-and-greets, granting hundreds of wishes worldwide. In 2008, he was named the Make-A-Wish Chief Wish Ambassador for his profound impact on children and their families.

Jordan shared how the children’s strength and resilience inspired him. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration. I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” he said.

A 2022 study found that granting wishes significantly benefits children’s physical, mental, and emotional health, even improving their chances of recovery. Wishes increase hope, strength, joy, confidence, self-esteem, quality of life, and well-being. They also help families cope during treatment changes and reduce feelings of depression, hopelessness, trauma, and isolation.

“Michael using his birthday as a chance to make history for Make-A-Wish speaks to the quality of his character and his loyal dedication to making life better for children with critical illnesses,” said Make-A-Wish President and CEO Leslie Motter. Jordan’s donation will go toward an endowment to fulfill future wishes.

Throughout his career, Jordan has inspired millions. He won six NBA championships, five MVP awards, and is a 14-time All-Star and Hall of Famer. Jordan played for the Bulls for 13 seasons, took a brief hiatus to play minor league baseball, and then returned to basketball with the Washington Wizards. Today, he owns the Charlotte Hornets.

Jordan holds several NBA records, including being the only player to never score under 20 points in a finals game. His birthday donation adds to his legacy of breaking records and inspiring others.

Another notable Make-A-Wish record was set by John Cena, who holds the Guinness World Record for granting the most wishes, helping 650 children since partnering with the organization in 2002.
