Obama Responds to Trump’s ‘Treason’ Accusations with Rare Public Statement
Former President Barack Obama has issued a rare statement through his office, responding to recent explosive claims by Donald Trump.
The former president’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, addressed Trump’s accusations that Obama had attempted to rig both the 2016 and 2020 U.S. elections, calling the allegations “a weak attempt at distraction.”
“Our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response,” Rodenbush said.
“However, these assertions are so ludicrous that they deserve one.”
The remarks were prompted not only by Trump’s Oval Office comments but also by a controversial 11-page report released by former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who alleged a “treasonous conspiracy” by Obama-era officials.
The statement from Obama’s office firmly dismissed the claims, reiterating that Russia did attempt to influence the 2016 election, but no votes were changed, a conclusion reached by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee under Republican leadership in its 2020 report.
Trump’s comments came during a joint press appearance with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 22, where he diverted from questions about Jeffrey Epstein and instead claimed that President Obama had been “caught” attempting to manipulate elections, even labeling it as treason.
The timing of Trump’s comments raised eyebrows, especially after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi declined to release further Epstein-related files, sparking outrage among some political observers.
Many see Trump’s statements as a strategic distraction from the renewed scrutiny around Epstein’s connections and legal records.
The Student Action Summit hosted by Turning Point USA recently highlighted the Epstein files as a growing concern among conservative youth activists, while mainstream observers noted that Trump’s comments may further polarize public discourse ahead of the 2024 election cycle.
