Popular Shampoo Recalled Over Bacteria Risk – What You Need to Know

German company Henkel has announced a recall of more than 1,000 bottles of its Tec Italy Totale Shampoo due to concerns about possible contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca, a bacteria that can be dangerous if it spreads outside the intestinal system.

While the shampoo was primarily distributed in New York and California, the company warns that it may have reached other states as well. It is also sold online to customers across Europe.

The product in question comes in a green one-liter (33.81 fl oz) plastic bottle with the lot number 1G27542266 printed on the side and the UPC code 7501438375850.

⚠️ Why This Recall Matters

Exposure to Klebsiella oxytoca can cause skin, eye, and nasal infections, and in more serious cases, it may lead to pneumonia-like symptoms such as fever, chills, shortness of breath, and persistent coughing.

The risk is particularly concerning for people with weakened immune systems, since if the bacteria enters the bloodstream, it can become life-threatening.

Although the FDA has classified this recall as Class II, meaning the risk of severe health effects is considered low, experts emphasize that it should not be ignored.

✅ What To Do Next

Henkel advises customers who purchased this shampoo to stop using it immediately and return it to the retailer for a full refund.

Anyone experiencing unusual symptoms after use should seek medical advice right away.

The company stressed that this is a precautionary recall and, so far, no cases of harm or injury have been reported.
