Tragic Loss: Beloved Actor Fatally Attacked by Shark
Tamayo Perry, a 49-year-old respected lifeguard, surf instructor, and actor, tragically died on Sunday in a suspected shark attack off Oahu’s North Shore.
Known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Blue Crush, Perry was a beloved figure in both the surf and film communities.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed deep sorrow, honoring Perry for his bravery and unwavering dedication during his eight years with Honolulu Ocean Safety.
“He served our community with unmatched commitment, ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors,” Blangiardi said. “We mourn the loss of a true hero.”
The fatal incident occurred near Goat Island on June 23, just before 1 p.m. Paramedics confirmed Perry’s death at the scene after lifeguards recovered his body, which had suffered multiple shark bite wounds.
Surf legend Kelly Slater and many others from the surfing community have shared heartfelt condolences, remembering Perry for his passion and love for the ocean.
His wife, Emilia Perry, said, “Though his passing is tragic, he left doing what he loved most.”
Perry was widely admired for his mastery of surfing at Pipeline, and his friendship with singer Jack Johnson was well-known.
He and his wife ran a surf school on Oahu’s North Shore, where his legacy will continue to inspire.
