Trump Responds to Celebrity Boycott During Surprise ‘Les Misérables’ Outing

Former President Donald Trump brushed off celebrity backlash after attending Les Misérables with First Lady Melania Trump at the Kennedy Center, saying, “I couldn’t care less. All I do is run the country well.”

Ahead of the performance, rumors circulated about potential protests, including disruptions by drag queens.

While there were both cheers and jeers as the Trumps entered, no incidents disrupted the show. Outside, a small group of drag performers staged a protest nearby.

Trump’s visit follows his recent decision to overhaul the Kennedy Center’s leadership, appointing himself chairman and naming Richard Grenell, his former acting Director of National Intelligence, as executive director.

Several LGBTQ events and performances were canceled under the new leadership, sparking controversy among artists and activists.

Despite celebrity withdrawals, including Shonda Rhimes and Ben Folds, Trump praised the Center’s upcoming season, which features musicals like Les Misérables, Chicago, and Moulin Rouge.

Trump dismissed questions about whether he related more to Jean Valjean or Inspector Javert, jokingly passing the question to Melania—who remained silent.

With major changes underway at the Kennedy Center, Trump promised: “We’re going to make it really great.”
