Update on Bondi Hero: New Details Reveal His Injuries May Be More Serious Than First Reported

The man hailed worldwide as the “Bondi hero,” Ahmed Al-Ahmed, has shared new updates from his hospital bed, and despite his serious injuries, he says he would step in again without hesitation.

Photographed recovering after multiple surgeries, the 43-year-old father of two remains in hospital after being wounded during the Bondi Beach attack, where he courageously confronted and disarmed a gunman.

His former lawyer, Sam Issa, told The Daily Mail that Ahmed’s condition is far more severe than early reports suggested.

According to Issa, Al-Ahmed has five gunshot wounds, and one may have caused nerve damage:

“He’s having multiple surgeries… and at this stage, he has no feeling in his arm.

The pain has taken a real toll, but he doesn’t regret what he did. He said he’d do it again.”

Despite his strength and composure, Issa says the hero is struggling physically, and the road ahead may be long.

Support From Around the World

Public support has been overwhelming. As of Monday, more than $1.2 million has been raised through a global crowdfunding effort, with U.S. billionaire Bill Ackman reportedly contributing $99,000 himself.

Video of the incident has gone viral, showing Ahmed rushing toward the gunman, grabbing him from behind, and forcing the weapon away, an act many believe prevented further loss of life.

Authorities say the attacker, Sajid Akram, was fatally shot at the scene, while his 24-year-old son, who was also armed, was taken to hospital under police guard.

Recovering, but Still Resolute

Al-Ahmed is currently being treated at St George Hospital, where doctors continue to monitor his condition.

Though the injuries are significant, those close to him say his spirit remains unwavering — and he is grateful for the support flowing in from Australia and beyond.

For many, he is not only a bystander who acted — but an everyday hero whose instinct saved others in a moment of unimaginable danger.
