World Champion Skaters Killed in Tragic D.C. Plane Crash
A devastating midair collision near Washington, D.C., has claimed the lives of world champion skaters, young athletes, esteemed coaches, and their families.
The crash, involving a commercial jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, occurred on January 29 near Reagan National Airport.
Authorities have recovered 28 bodies, with no survivors expected.
Among the victims were former world champion figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who had been coaching in the U.S. since 2017.
Their son, competitive skater Maxim Naumov, may have also been on board. Rising stars Jinna Han and Spencer Lane, along with their parents, were also confirmed deceased.
The U.S. Figure Skating Association expressed deep sorrow, calling it an âunimaginable tragedy.â
