The view from a cliff called The Gap in Sydney Harbor is truly quite beautiful, but unfortunately, the Gap is also notoriously known in Australia for a place where many commit suicide. Thankfully, Ritchie is known as a guardian angel. You see in those five decades, Ritchie has stopped an estimate of 400 people from ending their lives. He doesn’t have training in suicide prevention. He doesn’t call the police. All the grandfather does is offer a smile and an inquiry.
“Why don’t you come and have a cup of tea?” Ritchie asks those who feel the most alone. Then he invites them to his home, where his wife will prepare them a meal. Every morning Don surveys the cliff to look for those lost souls who need only the smallest amount of kindness.
