During a 2020 fishing trip on Marsh-Miller Lake, Tricia Hurt and her family unexpectedly found a young black bear swimming with a jar stuck on its head. Despite the potential risk, the family swiftly intervened, realizing the bear had been struggling for three or four days. Despite prior notifications to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the bear remained elusive. The Hurts’ quick and courageous actions turned them into impromptu heroes, potentially saving the bear’s life.
Expressing their joy, Tricia shared, “We were so excited! We did our good deed for the day.” The family’s swift response highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters and underscores the positive impact individuals can have on distressed animals.
