Senior Couple takes The Dance Floor, Now Keep Your Eye on Their Feet
Charlie Womble and Jackie McGee have been dance partners for more than 30 years, and when you watch them in action it’s clear they have something special. Since 1981, they’ve competed in over 300 competitions together, going undefeated for a dozen years. They won the National Shag Dance overall competition nine out of its first 10 years, and were the only couple who won the title for seven consecutive years. Despite being in their 60s, they still manage to boogie better than most.
Shag dancing is a couple’s dance in the same vein of swing. It’s a “slotted” dance, meaning the dancers move in a straight line while keeping footwork close to the ground and the upper body movements to a minimum.
