Soldier Undertakes Top Secret Mission To Get Stray Puppy Back Home With Him
While serving in Iraq several years ago, Lt. Col. Jay Kopelman encountered an adorable 5-month-old puppy that swiftly captured his heart. Christened Lava, the pup became an unlikely companion, despite military regulations prohibiting pets. With only a few months left in his tour, Kopelman faced the daunting task of bringing Lava back to the United States.
Embarking on a covert mission, Kopelman, along with a diverse group of friends including Marines, reporters, and Iraqi civilians, ventured into a top-secret operation to secure Lava’s passage home. The challenges, however, proved more formidable than anticipated. At one point, Lava found refuge dangerously close to Kopelman’s General. It was at this critical juncture that a military dog trainer, learning of the situation, decided to intervene.
