When Teen Can’t Afford Dream Dress, Prom Date Learns To Sew And Makes It For Her.
The enchantment of prom night for Pendleton Heights senior Addi Rust was nearly shattered when the perfect gown she fell in love with came with a hefty price tag. Realizing it was beyond her budget, she playfully suggested to her talented best friend and prom date, Parker Smith, to make the dress instead. Despite having zero sewing experience, Parker embraced the challenge. He sketched a design, familiarized himself with a sewing machine, and with a few tips from his grandma, spent months crafting a Cinderella-inspired masterpiece.
Parker’s effort reached its climax on the night before prom when Addi donned the stunning gown for the first time. The homemade creation not only exceeded expectations but also outshone the unaffordable original. Addi couldn’t contain her joy, feeling like a princess in a gown made with love and creativity. Their prom photos, showcasing Parker’s first sewing project, quickly went viral, capturing the attention of Bob Harbin, former head of casting for FOX network. This unexpected turn led Parker to a new opportunity, as he was commissioned to create two Cinderella dresses for a show at Footlite Musicals, solidifying his Cinderella story of talent and kindness.
Taking a minute to brag on this man because I think this is the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of. Parker MADE my prom dress. Straight from scratch did the whole thing and I am still speechless. I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend!❤️ pic.twitter.com/z6Woa66uLQ
