Florida Man Goes Viral After Strapping Down His House in Preparation for Hurricane Milton

As Hurricane Milton approached Florida, Mohammed Nijem, a resident, gained internet fame for his unconventional hurricane preparations.

Nijem secured his entire one-story home with six massive straps in an attempt to protect it from the storm’s destructive winds and flooding.

His efforts went viral after Spectrum Bay News 9 shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter), showing Nijem’s unique approach to safeguarding his home.

Social media users were quick to react, with many praising Nijem’s creativity and calling him a “legend” for thinking outside the box.

Some speculated about the effectiveness of his strategy, while others noted that even though Hurricane Milton had been downgraded to a Category 2 at the time, his house might still be at risk.

Nevertheless, Nijem’s determination to secure his property captured the attention of many as Hurricane Milton, expected to make landfall as a Category 4 storm with winds reaching 130 mph, drew closer.

In response to the looming threat, Florida officials issued mandatory evacuation orders for 11 counties, affecting nearly 5.9 million residents.

Authorities warned that storm surges and high winds posed the greatest risks, urging those remaining to prioritize their safety.

Nijem’s story highlights the lengths people are willing to go to protect their homes, even in the face of powerful natural disasters.

As the storm neared landfall, social media continued buzzing with reactions to Nijem’s bold efforts, a testament to how ordinary citizens can captivate the world during extraordinary times.

UPDATE!!!

Daughter shared a video on TikTok giving viewers a look at any damage caused to the house, and thankfully it isn’t very much.

“Everything is still intact, so we’re good,” she told the camera, thanking people for their support.

However, not everyone in their vicinity was so lucky, as she pointed out that many of their neighbours had lost power and had trees fallen onto homes.

@simplyuniquesmiles93 We made it through our second Hurricane and we are blessed to have no crazy damages to rhe home. My prayers still continue to those heavily affected during this time. Me and my dad are about to drive to see if anyone needs help🙏🫶🏼🏠#HurricaneMilton#CentralFL#Orlando#FLhomegoesviral#homestrappeddown#homedepot#lowes#USCC#cargocontrolstraps#acehardware#CNN#wash2news#spectrumnews#telemundo#univision#dailymail#abcnews#ukradiostation ♬ Inspirational – neozilla

“Not a single tile has lifted from the roof,” she said, adding that they aren’t going to remove the straps until hurricane season ends.
