Emotional Audition! Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter Emmy Russell Shines on ‘American Idol’

Emmy Russell, the granddaughter of the legendary Loretta Lynn, is stepping into the spotlight on the current season of “American Idol.” In a heartfelt audition on the February 25 episode, Emmy, the daughter of Patsy Lynn and Philip Russell, impressed judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan.

Filmed at Lynn’s estate in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, Emmy shared her personal connection to the iconic country singer, expressing, “She’s one of the biggest country music singers of all time, but to me, she’s just my grandma.” Despite being described as “quiet” upon entering the audition room by Bryan, the 24-year-old revealed her quiet demeanor stems from a desire to “own her voice.”

Perry acknowledged the uniqueness of Emmy’s potential, stating that if she cultivates a style like her grandmother, she could carve out her “own lane” as a performer. Emmy then showcased her talent at the piano, delivering an emotional performance of an original song titled “Skinny,” addressing the sensitive subject of an eating disorder.
