Viral Influencer Claims Beauty Allows Her to Avoid Conventional Jobs, Ignites Online Debate
Influencer Sparks Online Controversy with Viral TikTok Video, Claiming She’s “Too Pretty” for Traditional Work
Social media influencer Lucy Welcher, known for her lighthearted content and nearly 20 million likes, recently ignited a heated online debate after sharing a controversial TikTok post.
In the nine-second clip posted on November 8, 2022, the 20-year-old declared that she’s “too pretty” to work a conventional job, sparking a wave of criticism from viewers.
Welcher, often seen in her videos enjoying iced coffee or showing off her latest shopping haul, captioned the video with, “Not my thing [laughing emoji] #working #scam.”
In the video, she expressed her reluctance to endure a typical work schedule, saying, “I do not want to work for the rest of my life.
Does it look like I want to get up at 6 a.m. every day for the next 60 years? No! I’m too pretty for that!”
The post quickly went viral, drawing backlash from many who labeled her as “entitled” and “shallow.” One user commented, “I wish I had your confidence, but this is just shallow and self-absorbed.” Another criticized, “Someone’s entitled.
I hope you get humbled, girl. Looks have nothing to do with working, and it’s sad you think that way.”
In response to the widespread criticism, Welcher initially deleted the controversial post but later addressed the backlash in a follow-up video.
She explained that the original post was meant as a joke and that she felt she was being unfairly “slandered” online. She also took the opportunity to debunk some misconceptions about her, including claims about her income and lifestyle, revealing that she lives in a modest home in Canada.
On November 14, Welcher doubled down by sharing a new video, a “remake” of the original clip, once again sipping on her iced coffee.
This time, however, the majority of her followers came to her defense, understanding that her earlier comments were intended as humor. Supportive comments rolled in, with one user saying, “You’re 100% correct; getting up early going to work will spoil your good looks.”
Another added, “This video and the first one gave me life.”
